As Minnesotans spend more time at home, we’re naturally on the lookout for ways to increase our usable space. Decks and porches provide a welcome transition from indoors to outdoors to feed our need for sunshine and fresh air.

And if you can dream it, K DeWall can build it. With your help, we’ll design and build the deck or porch of your dreams, from maintenance-free composite decks to three-season porches and four-season sunrooms.

Decks

Step straight from the comfort of your home to the comfort of your deck. Raised decks provide the perfect setting for sunbathing and stargazing alike. We’ll help you choose from a variety of materials to suit your style and budget.

Maintenance-free composite decking materials are ultra durable and require little in the way of upkeep except for the occasional hose-down. Typically made from a blend of wood fibers and plastic polymers, composite decks are not subject to the fading, splintering, and rot that wood decks can suffer from. We prefer the TimberTech® brand, which looks and feels remarkably like real wood, minus the splinters! 

Prefer the beauty of natural wood? Cedar is a robust timber that is naturally resistant to insects and decay. You’ll need to seal and stain your cedar deck periodically to maintain its appearance and performance, but to many of our clients, the beauty of a natural cedar deck is unparalleled. Cedar is also a more affordable decking option than its composite counterparts. 

Porches

Enjoy the beauty of Minnesota’s fabulously dynamic seasons with a three-season porch. Screened-in porches are ideal for enjoying sunshine and outdoor air without the nuisance of insects. Unburdened by insulation or HVAC systems, these porches can be quite affordable and maximize the outdoorsy feel. Of course, this also means that their enjoyment is limited to spring, summer, and fall.

Your three-season porch can be constructed new or atop an existing deck. Before building on top of an existing deck, we’ll perform a thorough inspection to ensure the footings and substructure will support the additional weight a porch will bring to it. 

Four-season sunrooms

Want to soak up sunlight and the beauty of the outdoors during all four Minnesota seasons? With three walls of windows for maximum sunlight, our four-season porch is the ultimate mood-lifter. Insulated and equipped with HVAC, it functions as an additional room to your home—probably even your favorite room!

Underdecking

Underdecking systems such as Inside Out® and UnderDeck® expand your usable outdoor space by creating an outdoor ceiling underneath upper-level decks. Using an integrated system of panels and gutters that attach to the underside of your deck, water and dirt are channeled away, leaving this outdoor space clean and dry, whether for storage or shelter.
